Scholarships

Who can apply? 

Young people who are all of these:

  • between ages 17 and 26 
  • were in foster care (state or tribal) here in NM for at least one year during their life 
  • are or will be attending college, trade school, or similar program
  • submitted a completed application with a letter of recommendation

When to apply?

June 1, September 1, or December 1

Choose the deadline which works best for you.  You may apply each year you are enrolled in a program, even if you received an award in the past.

Note: If you don’t close your browser, Google saves your answers on the form and you can return to work on the form.  If you close/clear your browser prior to submission, your answers will be erased.

Your application must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a former or current foster parent, teacher, coach, counselor, caseworker, employer or other adult who can help the committee understand why this scholarship is important to you and your future.  Please ask this person to include his/her contact information.  Submission deadline for the recommendation letter is the same date as the application due date.  Letter can be mailed or you can share this link: https://forms.gle/ryeBAE3AEp4Hp2zd8

What happens if I receive a scholarship award?

The scholarship award is for a maximum of $1,000.  The money can be used as needed for expenses related to attending a wide range of schools and training programs, including:

-Trade School                                              -Required books/text

-Community college                                   -Class or lab fees

-Other educational programs                   -Required equipment

-Specialized training                                  -Supplies 

-University                                                   -Living expenses
