We believe birthdays should be one of the biggest highlights in a child’s year. With a little bit of magic, and a whole lot of sprinkles, a child’s birthday can be a special day filled with the joy of celebrating their birthday knowing that someone thinks they are special and cares about them.
Birthdays may be a time of mixed emotions for children and youth in foster care who are not accustomed to being acknowledged or feeling special. We want to share love with kids who do not smile and laugh as often as they could by providing positive memories and celebrating their birthdays.
Children in foster care are away from their families and may have bounced around to different foster homes, missing out on a normal childhood milestone of being celebrated on what should be their very special day.
Older youth in foster care often face the challenge of living in a group home or residential treatment facility where, no matter how dedicated the staff, birthdays may be overlooked or treated as an afterthought. It is important to reinforce the value and beauty of every child. Let’s honor their unique and wonderful qualities by recognizing them on their special day.
It’s Your Birthday! will provide each child or youth with a Birthday Box containing gifts chosen especially for them along with an age/interest appropriate book, and a personalized card.
To request a birthday box, fill out the appropriate form:
Ages 1 – 10: Ages 1-10
Ages 11 – 13: Ages 11-13
Ages 14 – 18: Ages 14-18
